Lila wanted to play in the woods behind her house, but could not understand why her father, grandmother, and the rest of the family thought it was a bad idea. Being that she was five and a big girl, Lila decided she was ready and would do it alone. Lila waited until everyone was not looking to make her move and sneaked out through the back door. she was amazed at the beauty and mysteries of the forest and started exploring. Meanwhile, at home, Grandma and dad were calling Lila to dinner but soon realized she was nowhere to be found. They searched her room, the basement, kitchen, and living room but no Lila. On the verge of giving up, they whispered a word of prayer, then they saw a clue leading to the forest. They took off running.
Lila wandered deeper into the woods, her heart pounding with fear and wonder. She clutched her small, worn-out teddy bear tightly, the only comfort in the vast, unknown wilderness. As the shadows grew longer and the air colder, Lila realized she could no longer see the path she had come from. Shivering, both from the cold and the creeping fear that she was lost and might never find her way home. She started to cry. Her eyes filled with tears, she remembered the words her grandmother had always told her. "When you're scared, pray and trust in God, for he is always with you," her grandmother's voice echoed in her mind. Kneeling, Lila clasped her hands together and whispered a prayer, her voice barely audible above the rustling leaves.
As she opened her eyes, Lila noticed a faint, warm light shimmering through the trees. It was as if the moon itself had sent a beam to guide her. With renewed hope, she stood up, her fear replaced by a sense of calm. She followed the light, feeling an invisible hand guiding her steps through the tangled underbrush.
Lila stepped into the clearing, her eyes widening in awe at the natural beauty around her. In the center stood an ancient tree, its roots gnarled and twisted, yet something was comforting about its presence. "Thank you," she whispered, feeling as though the forest itself had answered her prayer.
As the first light of dawn crept over the horizon, Lila heard familiar voices calling her name. She turned to see her father's worried face emerge from the trees, relief washing over him as their eyes met. Her father knelt down, pulling her into a tight embrace. "Thank God you're safe," he murmured, tears of joy mingling with his words.
Lila smiled, feeling the warmth of her father's arms and the comforting presence of the forest around her. She knew her trust in God had seen her through the night. As they walked back home, hand in hand, she looked back at the forest, whispering a silent promise to return one day, not out of fear, but out of love for the place that had kept her safe.
