Lila, a bright-eyed girl with tangled chestnut hair, stretches awake and grins as she spots Milo, her golden retriever, waiting patiently by her side with a wagging tail. She slides out of bed and kneels to ruffle his silky ears. "Ready for our morning adventure, Milo?" Milo responds with an enthusiastic bark.
Lila skips ahead, her laughter echoing between the trees. Milo trots faithfully at her side, nose twitching as he sniffs the earth. "Let’s see if we can find the old oak tree today," she suggests, eyes sparkling with excitement.
Milo bounds ahead, tail wagging, and circles the tree as Lila follows, marveling at the beauty around her. "This is our special place, Milo. Just you and me," she says, settling into the grass. The gentle breeze carries the scent of clover.
Lila rises, worry flickering across her face. Milo senses her unease and moves closer, pressing his warm body against her leg. "We need to hurry home, Milo," she whispers. The first droplets of rain begin to fall.
Lila clutches Milo's collar, her voice trembling. "I’m scared, Milo. What if we can’t find our way?" Milo nudges her hand and leads her confidently through the undergrowth, his nose to the ground. Trusting her loyal companion, Lila follows, hope flickering in her chest.
Lila collapses to her knees, hugging Milo tightly. "You’re the best friend I could ever ask for," she murmurs, her voice thick with gratitude. Milo wags his tail and licks her cheek, both safe and home at last.
