Sofia said softly, "I wish they wouldn’t bother me."
Evan said with a grin, "Hey, Sofia, making pretty pictures again?"
Sofia felt her cheeks turn red, holding her sketchbook tighter.
"What’s wrong, sweetie?" he asked gently.
"The boys at school keep teasing me," Sofia replied quietly.
Mr. Rodriguez smiled and said, "Next time, tell them to 'talk to the hand' and that they’re wasting your time. You’re very strong, Sofia!"
During lunch, Sofia sat under a big tree, drawing, when the boys came back.
Evan laughed and said, "Still drawing, Sofia?"
Sofia took a deep breath, stood tall, and held up her hand.
"Talk to the hand, Evan! You’re wasting my time!" she shouted, feeling strong.
Evan blinked, confused by her brave words.
"Um, okay..." he said, walking away with his friends.
Sofia felt happy and light, smiling for the first time.
Sofia returned to her drawing, feeling proud and peaceful.
"I really am strong!" she giggled, happy to be herself.
