Samantha stood at the entrance, her heart thumping as if it wanted to leap out of her chest. She clutched her lunchbox, its pink surface shiny and new. The world seemed to spin around her, filled with children in colorful backpacks streaming towards their classrooms.
Lily made her way through the crowd, her braids swinging as she moved. "Hey, Samantha! Over here!" she called out. Samantha felt a wave of relief wash over her.
"It's not so scary once you get used to it," Lily assured her. Samantha nodded, still a bit nervous but comforted by her friend's presence. "Thanks, Lily. I'm glad you're here," she replied, her grip on her lunchbox relaxing slightly.
The teacher, Mrs. Thompson, greeted them with a warm smile. Mrs. Thompson, a kind woman with glasses perched on her nose, introduced herself. "Welcome to Maplewood Elementary. I'm Mrs. Thompson, and we're going to have a wonderful year together," she said, her voice calm and reassuring.
Samantha began to feel more at ease, participating in drawing and reading sessions. She even answered a question about her favorite book, her confidence growing with each passing minute.
Samantha walked beside Lily, her heart lighter. "Today wasn't so bad after all," she mused. "I told you! Tomorrow will be even better," Lily replied with a grin.
Samantha smiled, realizing that this new adventure was just beginning, and she felt ready to embrace it with open arms.
