Jocori wishes he could join in, but his voice feels stuck deep inside. His heart races every time someone looks his way, and he glances down at his notebook, doodling quietly. The teacher, Mrs. Rivera, gives everyone a warm smile and announces a new group project.
He sees a group nearby, laughing as they plan their ideas. Jocori wants to join, but fear keeps him frozen. Suddenly, a boy named Milo waves him over. Milo, a friendly kid with curly hair and bright shoes, says "Hey Jocori! Want to be in our group?"
Jocori listens quietly as the others talk about their project. Layla asks, "Jocori, what do you think we should do?" Jocori hesitates, then softly says "Maybe... we could make a poster about helping animals?" The group nods and smiles, making Jocori feel a little braver.
"You have the best handwriting, can you write the title?"[/@ch_2_d]]
Jocori carefully writes “Helping Animals” in big, bold letters. Layla and Zoe cheer, and Jocori grins. For the first time, he feels like his voice matters.
"You’ve got this, Jocori."[/@ch_2_d]]
Jocori steps up to the microphone, his voice shaky but steady. "Our project is about helping animals. We can all make a difference, even if we’re shy. I learned that by working with my friends." The crowd claps, and Jocori’s heart soars.
Jocori realizes he has friends now, and his voice feels strong and clear. He looks around, grateful and happy, knowing he’ll never be afraid to speak up again.
