Cody sits cross-legged on his bed, clutching a shiny Captain Dynamo figure. Across the room, Luke bounces impatiently, a mischievous grin on his face. "Hey nerd, wanna watch this new video with me?" "Sure, Luke," Cody replies, his voice barely above a whisper.
Luke revels in teasing, his laughter echoing off the walls. "Everyone should see your silly bird undies! Too bad you can’t fight back," he jeers, tossing the comic aside. Cody lowers his head, hiding behind his superhero, wishing for courage.
Luke snickers, dipping Cody’s hand carefully. "Bet you’ll have another accident tonight, baby," he sneers. Cody watches helplessly, shoulders slumped, wishing for a hero to save him.
"Can you watch this with me, Luke?" Cody asks. "Whatever, nerd," Luke grumbles, rolling his eyes. The video hums hypnotically, and after five minutes, Luke’s gaze goes glassy, his hyper energy stilled as he sinks into a trance.
"Luke, you’re going to wet the bed every night," Cody intones, watching as Luke repeats the words in a monotone. "You’re going to be nice to me," Cody continues, and again Luke echoes, his face blank. Cody’s eyes widen; for the first time, he feels a surge of power.
The room is serene, filled with the gentle hum of the TV and the soft breathing of his brother. Cody whispers to himself, "Maybe tomorrow, things will be different." The poster of Captain Dynamo glimmers, reflecting the promise of change, as Cody curls up beside Luke—no longer powerless, but full of quiet courage.
