One sunny afternoon, Grandma was sitting in her cozy rocking chair when her grandchild came running into the room with a big smile.
"I love you, my little sweet pea!" giggled Grandma, her arms wide open.
The grandchild looked up with curious eyes and asked, "How much do you love me, Grandma?"
Grandma stretched her arms as wide as she could and said, "I love you THIS much!"
The grandchild copied her, stretching their arms as far as they would go.
"I love you THIS much too!" they giggled.
Grandma smiled warmly and said, "If you love me that much too, then I love you all the way from your house to my house—and that’s a really LONG way!"
The grandchild’s eyes lit up and they bounced with excitement.
"I love you from my house to your house, Grandma!"
Grandma chuckled and leaned closer. "If you love me that much too, then I love you as deep as the ocean!" She moved her hands up and down, like diving into water.
The grandchild copied her with a splashy giggle. "I love you as deep as the ocean too, Grandma!"
Grandma’s eyes twinkled. "If you love me that much too, then I love you as big as a rainbow!" She waved her arms in a big arch across the sky.
The grandchild did the same and laughed, "I love you as big as a rainbow too, Grandma!"
Grandma grinned and said, "If you love me as big as a rainbow too, then I love you from here to the clouds!"
The grandchild pointed up to the sky and said, "I love you from here to the clouds too, Grandma!"
Grandma gave a loving sigh. "That’s an awfully long way, little one!"
Then Grandma leaned in and whispered, "This last one is special. You have to really love someone to go this far."
She hugged the grandchild close and said, "I love you to the moon and back!"
The grandchild looked up with wide, adoring eyes. "Oh Grandma, you love me that much?"
Grandma kissed the top of their head and said, "I sure do. Since the day you were born. And I always will."
