Josiah hopped out of the car, his small hands smoothing his shirt as he stared in awe at the festive decorations. Above him, tall trees danced in the gentle breeze, and the songs of tiny birds flitted from branch to branch. Felix walked confidently beside his little brother, a reassuring presence amid the excitement. "Felix, everything looks so different today," Josiah whispered, his eyes wide.
Felix knelt down, meeting Josiah's curious gaze. "God gave us five ways to enjoy days like this," he explained, his voice gentle. "Five ways?" Josiah echoed, his brows furrowing in thought. "Five senses: sight, hearing, smell, touch, taste," Felix smiled, gesturing around as they walked across the sun-warmed grass.
Josiah blinked up at the blue sky, taking in the kaleidoscope of colors. "With our eyes, we see all this beauty—the bright eggs, the green grass, the sunlight sparkling everywhere," Felix explained, his hand resting on Josiah's shoulder. The laughter of other children drifted closer, and Josiah closed his eyes, letting the sounds of joy wash over him.
Josiah ran after Felix, feeling the tickle of grass at his ankles and the rough bark of a tree under his palm. He bent to retrieve an egg nestled in the shadows, the foil cool and smooth against his skin. "Use your nose too! Smell that? That's chocolate and cinnamon," Felix laughed, guiding Josiah toward a hidden treat.
Josiah hesitated as a blindfold settled over his eyes, darkness wrapping around him. Felix's steady voice cut through the uncertainty. "Slow steps, Josiah. Listen for my clues. Feel the ground, smell the chocolate—it’s all still there, even if you can’t see," he encouraged. Guided by his brother's words, Josiah edged forward, trusting sound, touch, and smell until his fingers closed around a hidden egg, pride blooming in his chest.
Josiah leaned against Felix, thoughtful and happy. The memories of color, sound, scent, touch, and taste danced in his mind. "I used all my senses today, Felix. I think God wanted me to notice everything," he mused quietly. "That’s right, Josiah. The world is full of wonders when you pay attention," Felix replied, his arm around his little brother as the Easter sun dipped low, promising new discoveries ahead.
