Julie, a shy seven-year-old with long braids and bright eyes, sat cross-legged on the floor, surrounded by an array of art supplies. Her heart was set on crafting the perfect Valentine's cards for her classmates. With a determined frown, she carefully cut out heart shapes from pink and red construction paper.
"I hope they like them," Julie whispered to herself, glancing at the pile of cards she had already completed.
As Julie decorated each card, her imagination wandered. She envisioned herself surrounded by new friends, laughing and playing. Each card was a token of her hope to connect with her classmates, to share in the warmth of friendship she longed for.
Her heart fluttered as she thought of Kota, the boy next door who often played in his yard. Would he notice her card? She carefully penned his name on a special card, adding extra glitter to make it sparkle.
Julie gathered her finished cards into a neat stack, her fingers tingling with excitement and nerves. She placed them in a small, handcrafted box adorned with tiny hearts and ribbons.
"Tomorrow will be perfect," she vowed, glancing out the window at Kota's house, her heart filled with hope.
With a deep breath, Julie put on her favorite red sweater and grabbed the box of cards. Her mother gave her a reassuring smile as she headed out the door, her small boots crunching in the fresh snow.
At school, Julie quietly placed each card on her classmates' desks, her heart racing with every step. When she reached Kota's desk, she hesitated, then placed the card gingerly, hoping it would catch his eye.
Julie watched from her seat, her hands clasped nervously in her lap. Her eyes widened as Kota picked up her card, a smile spreading across his face as he read her heartfelt message.
"Hey, Julie! This is really cool, thanks!" Kota called out, waving the card in the air.
"You're welcome," Julie replied shyly, her cheeks flushing with happiness.
Julie felt a new sense of belonging as she joined her classmates outside. Kota ran up to her, inviting her to join a game of tag. For the first time, Julie felt the warmth of friendship envelop her, her Valentine's Day wish fulfilled.
"This is the best Valentine's Day ever," she thought, her heart bursting with joy as she ran through the snow with her new friends.
