Junie skipped along the cobblestone path, her blue eyes wide with wonder. Her light brown hair bounced with each step as she approached the familiar wooden door. "I'm here, Great Grandma!" she called with a voice full of excitement.
Junie froze in her tracks, her gaze locked onto the furry creature. Whiskers, the mischievous cat, darted out from behind the chair, his tail twitching playfully. "Kitty!" Junie squealed, and with a burst of giggles, she lunged toward Whiskers.
Whiskers leaped onto the windowsill, his eyes sparkling with mischief. Junie clambered after him, her laughter bubbling over. Mom and Dad watched from the doorway, smiles playing on their lips. "Looks like she's found a new friend," Dad whispered.
"I want a kitty," she declared, turning to her parents with a hopeful gaze. Mom knelt beside her, smoothing a hand over Junie's hair. "You know, sweetie, having a cat is a big responsibility," Mom explained gently.
"I'll take care of it, I promise," Junie insisted, her voice earnest and filled with conviction. Dad chuckled softly. "We already have Kona and Kasey, sweetheart. They're a lot of work too," he reminded her.
"Maybe one day," she murmured, her thoughts filled with dreams of Whiskers and all the adventures they would have together. Great Grandmother kissed her forehead, tucking her in snugly. "Sweet dreams, my little one," she whispered, watching as Junie fell into a peaceful sleep, dreaming of a future filled with furry friends.
