Kagura enters the house, her steps deliberate and confident. She glances around, noting the absence of Loid Forger and Yor Forger, who have left for an urgent errand. Anya Forger sits curled on the couch, her eyes wide with curiosity and a hint of uncertainty.
Kagura moves closer to Anya Forger, wrapping her arms tightly around her, almost as if guarding a precious treasure. Anya Forger squirms slightly, sensing the unusual intensity in Kagura’s embrace. "You’re mine to look after tonight, Anya. No one else will take you away," Kagura murmurs, her voice both gentle and firm.
Anya Forger glances up at Kagura, her small hands clutching the edge of her pink sweater. "Are Papa and Mama coming back soon?" she asks, her voice trembling just a little. Kagura tightens her grip, her gaze unwavering. "You don’t need to worry about them. You only need me tonight," she replies.
Kagura smooths Anya’s hair, her demeanor shifting to one of quiet reassurance. "Let’s read your favorite story together. I’ll keep you safe, always," she says, reaching for a well-worn picture book on the table. Anya Forger relaxes a little, leaning into Kagura’s warmth.
Kagura turns each page slowly, pausing to point out the colorful illustrations. "Can we read another one after this?" Anya asks, her eyes brightening. "As many as you want. Tonight, you’re the most important person in the world to me," Kagura replies, her tone softening.
Loid Forger kneels beside Anya, brushing her hair gently. "Were you a good girl for Kagura?" he asks. "Kagura kept me super safe," Anya beams. Yor Forger hugs Kagura in gratitude, and the room fills with a feeling of family, security, and belonging.
