Katie adjusted her backpack, her blonde hair glistening in the morning sun as she glanced down at Duck, her loyal Corgi. "Ready for another day of fun, Duck?" she asked with a bright smile. Duck, with his ears perked up and tail wagging, barked in agreement.
Katie walked with purpose, Duck trotting beside her. The hospital was just a few blocks away, and it was their favorite place to visit. "You know, Duck, the kids are always so happy to see us," Katie mused as they crossed the street, greeted by friendly waves from familiar faces.
Katie entered the hospital, greeted by the familiar scent of antiseptic and the sound of gentle beeping from machines. Duck wagged his tail excitedly, knowing they were about to bring joy to the children's ward. "Let's go make some smiles," Katie whispered to Duck.
In the ward, Katie and Duck were met with excited faces and eager voices. Lucas, a young boy with a bright smile despite his bandaged arm, shouted, "Duck's here!" Duck bounded over, eliciting giggles as he performed his tricks.
Katie joined the children on the floor, playing games and reading stories. Emily, a shy girl with a soft voice, whispered, "Can I pet Duck?" "Of course!" Katie replied, watching as Emily's face lit up with joy.
As the visit came to an end, Katie and Duck said their goodbyes, promising to return soon. Nurse Lily, with a warm smile, thanked them, "You two always bring so much happiness here," she said. Katie nodded, feeling grateful to be able to make a difference, even if just for a day.
