Angela an eight years old girl skipped along the path, her sneakers crunching softly on the gravel. Her gaze drifted to the river, and her bright smile faded as she spotted the litter bobbing in the current and strewn along the bank. Her father, a gentle man with kind eyes, noticed her distress and squeezed her hand, kneeling beside her. "Dad, look at all this trash! Why do people do this?""Sometimes people forget to care for nature, but we can help make a difference," he replied, pulling out a pair of kid-sized gloves from his backpack.
Angela carefully picked up plastic bottles, paper cups, and a shiny candy wrapper shaped like a butterfly’s wing. Her cheeks flushed with effort as she worked, and her father nodded in encouragement. Together, they sorted the recyclables—plastic, glass, and paper—into separate bags, humming a cheerful tune that drifted on the breeze.
"These flowers will help the riverbank feel alive again," he explained, handing Angela a trowel. She pressed the marigold seedlings into the soil, envisioning a future where butterflies and bees would dance among the petals.
Angela wrote boldly, “Keep Our River Clean!” in swirling, colorful letters. "Dad, can we put this where everyone can see?" she asked, excitement lighting up her face. "Of course! Let’s put it right by the path," he said, helping her stake the sign into the soft earth where walkers would pass and take notice.
Maya, an adventurous girl, led the “No Litter” pledge, her voice strong. Everyone, grinning and eager, signed their names with pride. Angela greeted her friends, her eyes shining with excitement. "Thank you for coming! Today, we’re all river protectors," she cheered, as laughter and friendly chatter filled the air.
Leo suggested, "Let’s put our art in the library so everyone can see how beautiful the river can be," and everyone agreed with cheers. With help from adults, the children researched the river’s wildlife, learning about fish, frogs, and the importance of clean water. Angela jotted notes and sketches in her “Trash Journal,” her heart swelling with pride at every small change.
Angela and her friends performed a joyful song about keeping the river clean, their voices ringing out as neighbors clapped along. "Our river is clean, our hearts are bright, together we shine, let’s do what’s right!" they sang, clapping and dancing. Angela looked around at the smiling faces and sparkling water, feeling proud that her kindness had started something important—a promise to care for the world, one river at a time.
