Liam stood on his tiptoes, peering over the counter as Nana rolled out the dough with practiced ease. The kitchen was alive with the scent of cinnamon and nutmeg, and Liam's curiosity was piqued.
"Nana, why do we celebrate Thanksgiving?"
Nana paused, smiling gently at her grandson's inquisitive nature.
"Thanksgiving is a time for family and gratitude, my dear. It's a tradition that reminds us to be thankful for what we have," she explained.
Liam settled into a chair, eager to hear more. Nana joined him, her eyes twinkling with memories.
"When I was a little girl, we would gather around the table, sharing stories and laughter. It was about appreciating each other's company," she began.
"Did you have any special traditions?" Liam asked, leaning forward.
Nana nodded, her hands busy kneading the dough.
"Oh yes, we had a tradition of making a gratitude tree. Each leaf had something we were thankful for written on it," she recounted.
Liam imagined the tree, vibrant with colorful leaves, each one a testament to love and appreciation.
Liam decided he wanted to help, rolling up his sleeves to assist Nana with the preparations.
"Maybe we can make a gratitude tree this year, Nana?" he suggested brightly.
Nana chuckled, nodding in agreement.
"I think that's a wonderful idea, Liam. We have so much to be thankful for," she replied, her heart swelling with pride.
Together, they crafted colorful leaves, each one inscribed with words of gratitude. Liam wrote about his family, his friends, and even his dog, Max.
"This feels nice, writing down everything I'm thankful for," he mused.
Nana smiled, placing a leaf onto the tree.
"Gratitude is a powerful thing, Liam. It reminds us of the goodness in our lives," she said warmly.
As the family gathered around the table, the gratitude tree stood proudly in the corner, a symbol of love and appreciation. Liam felt a sense of belonging, knowing he was part of something special.
"Let's give thanks for this wonderful meal and the love we share," Nana declared, raising her glass.
Liam joined in, his heart full of warmth and gratitude, understanding the true meaning of Thanksgiving.
