Leo the llama trotted out of his house, his new backpack gleaming with blue and green stripes. His hooves clopped softly on the stone path as he admired the zipper and the tiny llama keychain swinging from the side. Today was his very first day of school, and his heart thumped with a mix of excitement and nerves.
Leo climbed aboard, clutching his backpack tightly. The bus was crowded with older animals—goats, sheep, even a tall alpaca who seemed to take up two seats. Leo slid into an empty spot and gazed out the window, hoping no one would notice his trembling knees.
"I hope school isn't too scary," he whispered to himself, watching the familiar mountain trails fade into the distance.
As Leo stepped onto the playground, a group of bigger kids laughed loudly nearby, tossing a soccer ball between them. He hesitated, unsure where to go, and felt his ears droop. No one seemed to notice him, and the swirl of activity made his stomach flutter nervously.
Maya the bunny, with soft gray fur and a pink bow, hopped over and smiled.
"Is this seat taken? I’m Maya. I like your backpack!"
Leo perked up, grateful for the friendly voice.
"Thanks! It’s my first day... I was a little scared,"
"Me too! We can stick together,"
The two shared carrot sticks and stories, laughter bubbling between them until lunch was over.
Leo, exhausted from his big day, leaned against his backpack. His eyelids drooped, and soon he was fast asleep, dreaming of adventures with his new friend. The bus rolled on, carrying sleepy students back to their homes.

Leo thought about all that had happened—the scary moments, the laughter with Maya, and the promise of new adventures. He hugged his backpack and smiled, feeling braver than before.
"Maybe school isn’t so bad. I think I’ll give it another try tomorrow,"
