Lila's small fingers clutched the worn leather leash attached to Putchi, a fluffy golden retriever with eyes full of wisdom. Lila was a shy girl, her heart pounding with both excitement and unease at the prospect of her reading lesson.
With a deep breath, Lila opened a picture book. Putchi sat beside her, wagging his tail encouragingly. "I wish I could read like the other kids," Lila whispered, tracing the illustrations with her finger. Putchi nudged her hand, as if to say he believed in her.
Lila stumbled over a difficult word, sighing in frustration. But Putchi gave a reassuring bark, and she tried again, her voice growing steadier with each attempt. "Thank you, Putchi," Lila smiled, a newfound determination in her eyes.
Lila imagined herself as the brave heroine of the tales, with Putchi as her loyal sidekick. "We're in a castle now, Putchi," she giggled, pointing to the drawings. Putchi barked happily, as if he could see the castle too.
"I think I'm getting better, Putchi," Lila said, her heart swelling with pride. Putchi licked her cheek in agreement, his tail wagging like a metronome to their shared rhythm of success.
Lila closed the last book with a satisfied sigh, leaning against Putchi. "Thank you for helping me, Putchi," she whispered. Putchi's gentle snore was the only response, a comforting reminder that she was never alone in her journey.
