Lila is the smallest lantern in the whole village. She glows just a little, her soft light twinkling under her bright yellow hat.
"Maybe today will be the day I shine bright," she whispers to herself, hoping nobody hears.
Lila watches the bigger lanterns dance and giggle. She wishes she could join them, but her glow feels too small.
"I’m just a little lantern," she sighs, her light flickering shyly.
The idea of the parade makes Lila's heart flutter. She wants to join, but feels nervous about shining in front of everyone.
"Can I be brave enough to glow with all the others?" she wonders, her ribbon quivering.
Lila tells Dot about her worries.
"What if my light isn’t bright enough?"
"Sometimes the smallest lights shine the warmest," Dot replies, smiling gently.
Lila takes a deep breath and steps into line. Her knees tremble, but she remembers Dot’s words.
She whispers, "I will try my very best."
Lila walks proudly, her gentle light shining beside all the others. She still feels a little scared, but her courage grows with each step.

Lila kneels down, her warm light guiding the kitten out safely. The crowd cheers as the kitten purrs and curls around her.

The mayor gives Lila a shiny courage ribbon.
"Your gentle light was just what we needed," he says.
Lila feels proud and happy inside.
"Being brave means trying, even when you feel small," she whispers, her heart glowing bright.
