Lily tiptoed across the grass, her bare feet leaving tiny impressions in the dew. Her long, light brown hair caught the sunshine, glimmering with every skip. She paused by a low branch, her eyes wide as she noticed something curious—a pale green cocoon, nestled safely between two leaves.
"Hello, little thing. I wonder who you are," she mused, tracing a finger gently in the air beside the cocoon. Lily visited every day after school, her voice bubbling with stories—about her favourite books, her dreams of flying, and her wish for a best friend who would never leave.
"I hope you don't mind that I talk so much," she giggled, pressing her hand to her mouth. "Sometimes I wish I could shrink down and see what your dreams look like." The cocoon, unmoving, seemed to listen, holding her secrets close.
"Something's happening! Are you coming out soon?" she whispered, her eyes shining with hope and wonder. She sat very still, not wanting to miss a moment, her heart thumping with excitement.
"You're beautiful," she says as a majestic butterfly reveals itself. The butterfly flutters gently, then lands on her outstretched hand, its delicate legs tickling her skin. She looked at it with awe, feeling as if all her hopes and dreams were reflected in its wings.
"Thank you for listening to me," she whispered softly, "Goodbye, my friend. I hope you fly to wonderful places." With a final flicker of its wings, the butterfly takes flight, swirling above her as she dances with joy, her laughter echoing through the garden and into the golden sky.
