Lily sat cross-legged on the plush carpet, playing with her favorite stuffed bear, Mr. Cuddles. "Today feels different, Mr. Cuddles," Lily whispered, brushing her fingers through his fuzzy fur. Her parents, Mom and Dad, were in the kitchen, speaking in soft tones that she couldn't quite hear.
In her imagination, Lily and Mr. Cuddles embarked on an adventure, swinging from vines and chasing butterflies. "Look, Mr. Cuddles," she giggled, pointing at a parade of ants marching along a leaf, "They're going somewhere important, just like us!"
"Lily, sweetheart," Dad began, taking her small hand in his. "We need to talk to you about something important," Mom added softly. Lily looked up, her eyes wide and curious. "We both love you very much, but sometimes grown-ups need to make changes to be happy," Mom explained.
"So, you don't love each other anymore?" Lily asked, her voice tinged with concern. "We still care about each other, but our love has changed," Dad reassured her. "It's not your fault, Lily. It's something between us, and we both want you to be happy," Mom added, wrapping an arm around her.
Lily imagined herself and Mr. Cuddles surrounded by friendly woodland creatures. "See, Mr. Cuddles, love can be like this forest," she said, her voice full of newfound wisdom. "It's different for everyone, but it always feels warm and safe."
"No matter what, we'll always be here for you, Lily," Dad promised, kissing the top of her head. "And you'll always have us to love you," Mom added with a smile. Lily, feeling the love surrounding her, hugged Mr. Cuddles tightly and knew everything would be alright.
