Lily, a spirited 12-year-old with a knack for business, carefully arranges lemons and cups on her new stand. Her eyes sparkle with excitement as she surveys her setup. "Today's the day I make my first sale," she declares confidently to the empty street. A moment later, her best friend, Max, appears, carrying a notepad and a calculator. "Ready to start your lemonade empire?" he asks with a grin.
Lily greets them with a bright smile. "Good morning! Would you like to try some lemonade?" she offers. The joggers nod, reaching for their wallets. Max flips open his notepad. "Alright, if each cup is 50 cents, and they buy three cups, how much do they owe?" he challenges. The joggers, amused, take a moment to solve the problem before handing over $1.50. "Thank you!" Lily beams, dropping the coins into a small cash box.
Amidst the cheerful chatter, Lily and Max work efficiently. [@ch_1]Lily[/@ch_1_d] hands out cups with practiced ease, while [@ch_2]Max[/@ch_2_d] keeps track of sales. "If we sell 20 cups and each costs 50 cents, how much money will we have made?" [@ch_1]Lily[/@ch_1_d] asks the crowd, encouraging young customers to engage. A boy in a baseball cap eagerly calculates out loud, [@ch_3]Tommy[/@ch_3_d]"That's $10!"[/@ch_3_d] [@ch_1]Lily[/@ch_1_d] nods approvingly, "Exactly! Thanks, Tommy."
Max looks at the emptying boxes with concern. "We need to restock soon. If lemons cost 10 cents each and sugar is 5 cents per cup, how much will it cost to make 30 more cups?" Lily sits down with a pencil and paper, inviting the kids around to help her solve the problem. Together, they figure out the cost, calculating a total expense of $4.50 for restocking. "Let's do it! We can make even more lemonade," she decides.
"We sold 50 cups today," Lily announces, her eyes wide with pride. "That's $25! But after expenses, what’s our profit?" Max calculates quickly, "Subtracting the $4.50 for supplies, our profit is $20.50." [@ch_1]Lily[/@ch_1_d] claps her hands excitedly, "We did it, Max! And we learned so much about money management too."
Lily and Max sit on the curb, sipping the last of the lemonade. "This was fun," Max[/@ch_2_d] admits. "And tomorrow, we can do even better," [@ch_1]Lily adds, looking forward to another day of business. As they plan for the future, the street lights flicker on, casting a warm glow over their plans for a lemonade empire.
