Little Bear was excited as he entered his kindergarten class. The room was buzzing with laughter and chatter as children played with various toys, but Little Bear had his eyes set on a particular puzzle piece. Just as he reached for it, Bunny snatched it away, leaving Little Bear frustrated. He began to yell and knocked the toys off the table in anger.
The teacher approached calmly and knelt beside Little Bear. "When you feel upset, you can talk to your friends or ask me for help instead of yelling," she advised gently. Despite the comforting words, Little Bear still felt upset and chose to sit alone, not wanting to play anymore.
At home, Little Bear's mom noticed his mood. "How was your day at school?" she asked with a smile. Little Bear explained sadly, "I got mad because Bunny took the puzzle piece I wanted. I couldn’t control myself and made a mess." His mom listened patiently and then said, "Let me teach you three magic steps to calm down when you feel angry."
Little Bear's mom guided him through the steps. "First, take a deep breath and exhale slowly three times. Then, count from 1 to 5. Finally, say how you feel, like, 'I’m upset because Bunny took my toy.'" Little Bear nodded, practicing the techniques with his mom’s gentle encouragement.
The next day at kindergarten, Bunny again picked up a puzzle piece that Little Bear wanted. This time, remembering his mom's lesson, Little Bear paused. He took a deep breath, counted to five, and then said, "Bunny, I want to play with that piece. Can you share it with me?" Much to his delight, Bunny smiled and offered to share, and they happily played together.
After school, Little Bear rushed to tell his mom about his day. "Mom, I used the three magic steps today! I didn’t yell, and Bunny shared the toy with me," he exclaimed. His mom hugged him tightly, "I’m so proud of you! When you stay calm, you’ll feel happier and make more friends."
