Pastor Grace, dressed in a pale blue dress with a white collar, stands with a kind smile before her small group of students. The children, each in tidy attire, sit with eager faces, their hands folded in their laps. "Children, today’s message is about serving others. The Bible says in 1 Peter 4:10, ‘Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others.’ God has given each of you special talents—your hands, your smiles, your kindness. And when you use those to help others, it's a gift of love to your whole community."
A bright-eyed girl in a pink dress, Sarah, raises her hand. "Pastor Grace, but we’re just kids. What can we do?"
Pastor Grace beams, her eyes twinkling. "Oh Sarah, kids can do so much. Let me show you."
Sarah sits with Tommy, a lively boy in a green shirt who grins at every passing butterfly, and Lily, a thoughtful girl in a lavender dress who sketches quietly. "We could clean up the park! Last week there was trash near the swings."
"Or visit the nursing home. Grandma says the people there get lonely."
"Let’s do both! We can make cards, too—Lily, you could draw, and I can help write. And we can bring the cards when we go to visit!"
They all reach across the table, hands stacked in cheerful agreement, their hearts brimming with excitement as they begin to map out their weekend of kindness.
Sarah, Tommy, and Lily move methodically, picking up candy wrappers, bottle caps, and stray scraps with care. They wave to neighbors, offer cheerful greetings, and even pause to help a small boy find his missing red truck under a bush. An elderly man with a gentle smile, Old Man Walking His Dog, pauses nearby. "You kids are doing a fine job out here. What made you want to help?"
"Pastor Grace told us that God gave us helping hands. We’re just using them!"
The man’s eyes crinkle with pride as he pats Tommy on the shoulder, his dog wagging its tail in happy approval.
Lily gently places a card decorated with pastel flowers into the hands of Miss Helen, an elderly woman with silver hair and kind eyes. "You don’t know how much this means to me. I haven’t had visitors in weeks."
"But God hasn’t forgotten you. And neither have we."
The children move from room to room, singing hymns, reading Bible verses, and sharing laughter. Tommy and Sarah ring small handbells, their melodies bringing light to every corner. Smiles, tears, and heartfelt thanks fill the air, wrapping the home in warmth and love.
Pastor Grace invites Sarah, Tommy, and Lily to join her at the front. "This week we learned that even kids can serve. We don’t need to be grownups to do good things. We can pick up trash, share a smile, or just be kind."
"And when we help others, we’re showing God’s love."
"Being a helper feels really good in our hearts. Like Jesus is smiling with us!"
The congregation bursts into applause, parents dab at joyful tears, and Pastor Grace hugs each child tightly. "This is what faith in action looks like. These children are leaders in love, teaching us all that no act of kindness is ever too small."
A voiceover echoes softly, accompanied by visuals of Sarah, Tommy, and Lily sharing, laughing, and serving. "You are never too young to serve. Whether it’s a kind word, a helpful hand, or a thoughtful drawing—your heart is a gift. Give it freely, serve joyfully, and shine God’s love wherever you go."
Words appear on the screen:
1. Serving with Time: Giving up a Saturday morning to care for God’s creation.
2. Serving with Talent: Using art, words, and energy for good.
3. Serving with Compassion: Bringing joy to the lonely.
4. Serving as a Team: Working together, each one playing a unique role.
The story ends with the children waving to the camera, their faces glowing with hope, ready to inspire others to serve with little hands and big hearts.
