Lorenzo the tortoise laughed as he carefully balanced the baseball on his shell before tossing it to his friend. Marcus the armadillo rolled himself into a ball and bounced the baseball back with a gentle thud. The sun warmed their shells, and the air was full of cheerful giggles. Birds chirped from above, and the scent of fresh grass floated on the wind.
Lorenzo watched in surprise as the baseball sailed high and disappeared into the neighbor’s yard. Marcus gasped, his eyes wide with worry. "Oh no, Lorenzo! The ball went into Mr. Abraham’s garden. What do we do now?" The friends looked at the fence, feeling nervous about the mysterious neighbor everyone called grumpy.
Lorenzo whispered, "I heard Mr. Abraham is really grumpy and doesn’t like visitors. What if he gets mad at us?" Marcus shivered a little, tucking his tail close. "Maybe we should just leave the ball… but it was your favorite," he said softly. The friends held each other’s paws, working up the courage to knock on the neighbor’s door.
Character Introduction: Abraham the gorilla, the neighbor, tall and gentle, with gray fur and a gentle smile.
Lorenzo stammered, "Um, hello, Mr. Abraham. Our baseball rolled into your garden. Could we please have it back?" Abraham bent down, his big hands holding the shiny red ball. "Of course you can, my friends! And please, call me Abraham. Would you like to meet my grandchildren? They love to play games, too," he said warmly.
Marcus grinned and whispered, "I guess Abraham isn’t so scary after all!" Lorenzo nodded, feeling happy and brave. Together, they tossed the ball to new friends, running, jumping, and rolling through the grass as butterflies fluttered above.
Abraham smiled at the group, "You are always welcome here, my friends. There’s nothing better than playing together," he said. Lorenzo and Marcus beamed, feeling glad they had been brave, and even happier to have made so many new friends.
