Lumi wandered at the edge of the valley, her small, round form softly aglow like moonlight cradled in plush warmth. Each step left behind golden footprints shimmering briefly before fading into the grass. The hush of nighttime wrapped around her, comforting and gentle. She paused to watch the fireflies dance, her light mingling with theirs, and smiled at how the night welcomed a little glow.
Lumi sensed something amiss as she approached the bubbling water. The familiar brightness had faded, replaced by a hush that felt uncertain. A soft sniffle broke the silence, drawing her closer to a shadowed tree. Kneeling, she discovered a tiny star, fallen from the sky—its light flickering weakly, trembling in the gloom.
"Hello?"
"I tried to shine," the little star whispered, voice barely above the stream’s murmur, "but I got scared."
"It’s okay," Lumi’s glow softened to a gentle blue, "everyone feels scared sometimes."
Lumi tucked the trembling star into her satchel, promising safety and warmth. Together, they began their journey beneath tangled branches, the night’s hush growing lighter with each step. Shadows, once bold, now wiggled and scooted away shyly, not chased but gently persuaded by Lumi’s presence. The forest seemed to breathe easier, soothed by the soft glow that traveled steadily onward.
"We’ll find your way home," Lumi promised, her voice as soft as moss underfoot.
Lumi paused, her shine flickering with worry. She gazed up at the sky, unsure if her light would be enough to guide the star home. The little star peeked out from the satchel, its own flicker growing steadier in Lumi’s care.
"What if I’m not bright enough?" Lumi whispered, voice barely a breath.
"You already helped me," the star replied, gentle and true, "That’s what light does."
Lumi closed her eyes, breathing in the cool night air, and her glow returned—warmer, stronger, unwavering.
Lumi lifted the little star gently from the satchel, cradling it in her hands. The breeze tugged gently at their forms, and the world seemed to hold its breath. Lumi smiled, her light enveloping the star in encouragement.
"Ready?"
"I’m ready," the star replied, its light now bright and confident.
With a soft whoosh, the star floated upward, joining its companions in the sky. The other stars shimmered in welcome, their joy reflected in the valley below.
Lumi settled by the stream, feet dangling into cool, sparkling water. She watched the quiet ripples, reflections of stars dancing across the surface. Above, the little star winked down, a bright spot in the deep night. Lumi smiled, knowing that sometimes, a little light is all the darkness needs.
