Luna, a fluffy golden retriever with a penchant for comfort, sprawled luxuriously across the bed. Her golden coat shimmered under the dim light, and she let out a contented sigh, nestling deeper into the pillows. Max, her doting owner, chuckled as he tried to find space on his own bed.
"You always leave me just a sliver," he teased, gently nudging her over.
Luna merely thumped her tail, eyes already drooping shut, as if to say, "But it's so comfy here!"
Max sat up abruptly as Luna growled softly, ears perked and alert. The storm outside was fierce, rain lashing against the windows. But what caught both their attentions was a strange noise—an odd scratching at the door.
"Did you hear that, girl?" Max asked, his voice a mix of curiosity and caution.
Luna was already off the bed, padding towards the door, tail wagging with excitement rather than fear.
Max followed Luna down the hallway, his footsteps soft on the wooden floor. The mysterious noise persisted, a rhythmic tapping that seemed to beckon them closer.
"Let's see what this is about," he murmured, reaching for the doorknob with Luna anxiously circling his feet.
As the door swung open, they were greeted by an unexpected sight—a small, drenched kitten huddled on the porch, shivering from the cold.
Max knelt down, gently scooping the kitten into his arms. Luna sniffed at the newcomer, her demeanor gentle and curious.
"Looks like we've got a visitor," Max said softly, cradling the tiny creature against his chest. Luna gave a reassuring lick to the kitten's head, as if welcoming it to their cozy home.
Max settled back into bed, the kitten nestled comfortably between him and Luna. The golden retriever rested her head on Max's arm, her tail wagging gently as she watched over her new friend.
"I guess we have more company tonight," Max chuckled, feeling the warmth of the little bundle against him.
"Welcome to the family," Luna seemed to say, as the three drifted off to sleep, the storm now a distant lullaby.
The sun rose gently over the horizon, its rays painting the walls with soft hues of gold. Luna awoke to find the kitten curled up against her, its soft purrs a comforting rhythm. Max smiled at the scene, feeling grateful for the unexpected twist to their night.
"Looks like you've got a new sleeping buddy, Luna," he said, scratching behind her ears.
With a contented sigh, Luna snuggled closer, feeling perfectly at home with her little family.
