The little boy, his brown hair tousled from play, snuggled close to his mom beneath the covers. Their hands entwined, they gazed up at the luminous green stars overhead, each one twinkling with its own quiet promise. The world outside was hushed, but inside, the glow of love and imagination filled the room.
"Did you know that God knows every star by name?"
She squeezed her son's small hand, her voice tender.
"Think how much He loves you. He knows you by name too."
"There's a lot of stars!"
"There sure is," his mom replied, her eyes sparkling.
"A great big sky, and a great big world, full of great big adventures, just waiting for you."
The boy beamed, imagining astronauts drifting through the dark, their laughter echoing as they leapt from star to star. In his mind, the stars connected, forming the outline of a grand pirate ship, sails unfurled, ready for adventure.
"Ahoy!" he whispered, clutching his mother’s hand tighter.
Mom lifted her son so he could see the sky, both searching for the hidden stars.
"Sometimes in the city, it’s hard to see all the stars," she murmured, brushing her hair behind her ear.
"But if you look closely, you can always find a little magic."
He squinted, finding one, two, maybe three stars in the haze, and smiled, hope flickering in his heart.
Mom held her son’s hand, leading him from the car toward their campsite.
"Tonight, I have a surprise for you," she said, her voice bright with promise.
They set up their tent together, the boy’s laughter echoing through the crisp, pine-scented air. As dusk deepened, the first stars began to appear, brighter and bolder than any he’d ever seen before.
Lying side by side on a blanket, the boy and his mom gazed upward, mouths open in awe.
"They’re so beautiful, Mommy. More than I ever imagined."
"That’s the magic of the stars, sweetheart," she whispered, wrapping an arm around him.
He watched as the stars seemed to swirl and dance in the sky, his imagination soaring higher than any rocket.
The boy watched the waves catch the light of the fading stars, making the water sparkle as if sprinkled with fairy dust.
"The water looks magical, Mommy," he said, his voice hushed in wonder.
"There really is magic in the stars," his mom replied, tucking a stray lock of hair behind his ear.
"And there’s magic in you too," he whispered, resting his head on her shoulder, their hearts full of love and starlight.
