Elise adjusted her scarf and peered out the window, her breath visible in the chilly air. "I can’t wait to find our tree this year," she said, excitement bubbling in her voice.
Henry gave her a reassuring smile. "It’s tradition, after all. And with Buddy, it’s bound to be an adventure," he replied, glancing at their eager dog, Buddy, who was wagging his tail furiously.
In the backseat, Arlo and Grayson were bundled in layers of winter clothing, their cheeks rosy from the cold. "Are we there yet?" Arlo asked, his eyes wide with anticipation.
"I think Buddy is more excited than we are," Grayson giggled, watching the dog sniff the air eagerly.
Elise stepped out, taking a deep breath of the crisp, pine-scented air. "This is perfect," she murmured, her voice filled with awe.
Buddy bounded ahead, barking joyfully as he led the way into the woods. Henry grabbed the saw from the trunk, while Arlo and Grayson scampered after their dog, laughter trailing behind them.
"Stay close, everyone," Henry called, his voice carrying through the trees.
Arlo was the first to notice. "Look at the lights!" he exclaimed, pointing to the sparkling snow.
Grayson gasped, eyes wide with wonder. "It’s like something out of a fairy tale," he whispered, clutching his brother’s hand.
Elise and Henry shared a glance, their curiosity piqued. Buddy barked and ran into the clearing, his paws kicking up sprays of snow.
"Woof!" Buddy barked, wagging his tail as he circled the tree.
Henry approached cautiously, his eyes wide with disbelief. "I’ve never seen anything like this," he said, reaching out to touch a glowing ornament.
Grayson giggled, "It’s magic, Dad!"
Elise nodded, her heart full of wonder and joy. "It’s perfect," she agreed. Arlo and Grayson danced around the tree, their laughter ringing through the clearing.
Elise wrapped her arms around Henry and the boys, feeling grateful for this unexpected gift. "This will be a Christmas we’ll never forget," she said softly.
Henry nodded, his heart full. "It’s moments like these that remind us how magical the world can be,"
Buddy barked in agreement, and they all laughed, their voices mixing with the gentle hum of the enchanted clearing.
As they made their way back to the Land Rover, the family carried the memory of their magical encounter with them, their hearts warmed by the magic of the season.
