Maija, a 6-year-old with dark skin, long dark hair, and pink glasses, sat cross-legged on her bed, hugging her favorite stuffed bear. She glanced around her familiar room, feeling a mix of excitement and uncertainty about the changes happening at home. Her mother had told her that Waxi, her new partner, would be moving in today.
Maija peeked around the corner, watching Waxi with curiosity. Waxi was tall and had a kind smile that seemed to make the room feel warmer. "Hey there, Maija," Waxi called, noticing her. Maija hesitated, then stepped into the room. "Do you want to help me choose a book for tonight's story?"
Maija picked up a book with a bright cover and handed it to Waxi. "This one looks fun!" she said, her voice bubbling with enthusiasm. Waxi chuckled, "Great choice, Maija. Let's read it together." As Waxi began to read, Maija leaned closer, feeling a sense of comfort and belonging.
Maija thought about how nice it felt to have Waxi read to her. She realized that families could be different and still be filled with love. "Maybe having Waxi here isn't so bad after all," she whispered to her bear, smiling sleepily.
Maija helped spread the picnic blanket while her mother unpacked sandwiches and fruit. Waxi was setting up a game of frisbee. "Ready to play, Maija?" Waxi asked, tossing her the frisbee. "Yes!" Maija giggled, catching it with ease.
With a full heart, Maija snuggled closer to her mother and Waxi. "I love our family," she said, looking up at them both. Her mother smiled, "We love you too, Maija. Our family is special, just like you." Together, they watched the sunset, knowing that whatever changes came their way, they would face them together, as a family.
