Mama, a gentle, brown-skinned woman with bright eyes and an easy smile, gathers her two children close. Maya, her curious daughter with fluffy pigtails, hugs her favorite teddy bear. Jalen, her energetic son, sits cross-legged and excited, his eyes wide with anticipation. Ms. Rosie, a kind white neighbor, peeks in through the open door, holding a tray of muffins.
"Good morning, my loves. Today, I want to teach you about someone very special—Jesus,"
"Who is Jesus, Mama?"
"Jesus is a friend to everyone," Mama begins, her voice soft and warm. "He loved people who were happy, people who were sad, people who looked just like us, and people who looked different, too. He taught us to be kind, to share, and to care for one another." Jalen leans in, captivated by the colorful illustrations.
"Did Jesus play with children like us?"
"Yes, Jalen. Jesus loved to be with children. He told them stories, listened to their dreams, and taught them to love others," Mama explains. Maya smiles, imagining herself sitting beside Jesus in a sunny field. "He showed us that no matter where we come from or what we look like, we are all God's children."
Liam[/@ch_5], a white classmate, and Sofia, a brown-skinned friend, arrive with baskets of crayons and paper. The living room bursts with laughter as all the children begin drawing together.]
"Can we draw our favorite part of the story?" "Of course! Jesus loved when people created beauty and shared it," Mama encourages. The children color pictures of Jesus with open arms, surrounded by families of every color and background, all smiling and holding hands.
"I drew Jesus hugging everyone, even when they're different," "My picture shows Jesus helping someone who was sad," "I drew us all together, because Jesus loves us all," "And I drew a big heart because Jesus wants us to love big, too!" Mama beams with pride, her heart full.
"Remember, loving like Jesus means being kind, sharing, listening, and helping everyone," Mama whispers as she tucks them in. "No matter where you go or who you meet, you can shine Jesus's love everywhere." The children drift to sleep, dreaming of bright fields, open arms, and a world filled with kindness and love.
