Lila stood on her tiptoes, peering through the glass window of the nursery. Her heart fluttered like a butterfly trapped in a jar. Clutching her stuffed bear tightly, she glanced up at her mom, who was resting in a chair nearby, her face glowing with a tired, but joyful smile.
"Mom, is that him?" Lila whispered, pointing at a tiny bundle swaddled in a blue blanket.
Mom nodded, her eyes twinkling with love. "Yes, sweetheart, that's your baby brother," she replied softly.
Lila's heart skipped a beat as a nurse gently lifted her brother, bringing him closer to the window. His tiny face peeked out from the blanket, eyes closed, pink cheeks puffed up like little clouds. She felt a rush of warmth and wonder, as if the whole world had paused just for them.
"He's so small," Lila marveled, her voice barely above a whisper.
Mom chuckled softly. "Yes, he is. But he's going to grow up fast," she promised.
Lila sat on the edge of the hospital bed, her tiny hands cradling her brother for the first time. His eyes fluttered open, meeting hers with a gaze that seemed both curious and serene. In that instant, she felt a connection that words couldn't describe, an unspoken promise to protect and cherish him always.
"Hi, little brother," she cooed, her voice filled with awe and affection.
Mom watched them with tears glistening in her eyes. "You two are going to be the best of friends," she said, her voice thick with emotion.
As the day turned to dusk, Lila cuddled her bear closer, a newfound sense of belonging filling her heart. The world felt bigger and brighter, with possibilities stretching out like the endless sky. She knew that this moment would be etched in her memory forever, the beginning of a beautiful journey with her baby brother by her side.
"I can't wait to show you everything," Lila whispered, her eyes sparkling with dreams of adventures yet to come.
