A tiny giggle bubbles up from the woven mat where Mfue, a round-faced baby with bright eyes and chubby cheeks, wiggles his toes in the morning light. His mother, Mama Rue , kneels beside him, gently stroking his curly hair. She hums a lullaby as she spoons warm porridge into his eager mouth. Today, there is excitement in the air—she has noticed something new.
Mama Rue gasps softly, her eyes widening as Mfue grins up at her, revealing a tiny white nub peeking from his lower gum. "Oh, my little lion, you have your very first tooth!" Mfue squeals with delight, waving his arms and babbling, as if he understands the importance of this milestone.
Mama Rue steps out, Mfue bundled in a colorful kanga on her back. She calls to her husband who is cutting firewood. "Baba Rue! Come see—Mfue has his first tooth!" Baba Rue claps his hands, a broad smile lighting his face as he rushes over to peek at the baby.
Word spreads quickly, and soon a small crowd gathers to admire Mfue. Grandfather Nuru, the oldest in the village, lifts Mfue high, his eyes twinkling. "A strong tooth for a strong future! May this be the first of many blessings for our little one," he declares, as everyone laughs and sings a joyful welcome song.
Mama Rue cradles Mfue in her arms, rocking him gently as he drifts toward sleep. She traces a finger over his cheek, remembering the excitement of the day. "You are growing so fast, my precious Mfue. With each new tooth, may you always find reasons to smile," she whispers softly, her heart full of pride.
Mfue dreams of laughter, music, and the loving arms that held him high. His tiny tooth glimmers as he sleeps, a bright promise of the many adventures yet to come.
