Mia was perched on the edge of the couch, her fingers tapping rhythmically against her phone as she awaited Jason's return from school. It had become a ritual of sorts—Mia picking up her younger brother and swinging him into a playful piggyback ride. "There he is," she murmured to herself, spotting Jason's familiar figure approaching the front door.
Jason had grown tired of always being the one lifted and carried. Today, he had a trick up his sleeve. "Let's see how Mia likes it," he thought, a smirk playing on his lips as he purposefully delayed his return home.
Jason tiptoed through the hallway, careful not to make a sound. He peeked into Mia's room and saw her absorbed in the flickering screen. "Perfect," he whispered, creeping closer until he was right behind her.
With a deep breath, Jason attempted to scoop Mia up, just as she always did with him. However, he quickly realized his sister was heavier than he anticipated. "Whoa," he gasped, gently setting her back down, his face flushed with effort.
"Nice try, little bro," Mia chuckled, ruffling his hair affectionately. "Looks like you need a bit more training before you can carry me across the room." Her laughter was infectious, and soon Jason found himself grinning despite his failed attempt.
"I'll get there one day," Jason vowed, a determined glint in his eye. "I have no doubt," Mia replied warmly, pulling him into a side hug. As they settled into the cushions, the playful banter continued, their laughter echoing through the house like a familiar melody.
