Mira was already up and dressed, her backpack neatly packed and waiting by the door. Her eyes sparkled with excitement and a hint of nervousness. "Is it time to go yet, Mom?" she asked, her small hand clutching the strap of her backpack.
Mom smiled, her eyes filled with warmth as she poured herself a cup of coffee. "Almost, sweetheart. Finish your breakfast first," she replied, setting a plate of scrambled eggs in front of Mira.
Mira clung to her mother's hand, her heart pounding with anticipation as they approached the entrance. The sounds of laughter and chatter surrounded them, creating a symphony of youthful energy. "Look, Mom, there's the playground!" she exclaimed, pointing to the swings and slides.
"You'll have plenty of time to play later, sweetheart," Mom reassured her, giving her hand a gentle squeeze. Ms. Thompson, the kindergarten teacher, smiled warmly as she greeted them at the door.
Ms. Thompson introduced herself to the children, her voice cheerful and inviting. "Welcome to kindergarten, everyone! We're going to have so much fun learning and playing together," she said, her eyes twinkling with kindness.
Mira found her seat, her nerves slowly giving way to excitement. She looked around at her classmates, eager to make new friends. "Hi, I'm Mira," she whispered to the girl next to her, who smiled back shyly.
"Let's start with a story," Ms. Thompson announced, holding up a book with a bright cover. The children listened intently as she read, their eyes wide with wonder at the tale of adventure and friendship.
Mira felt a sense of belonging as she joined in the laughter and questions that followed the story. "I can't wait to learn to read like that," she thought to herself, determined to embrace every moment of this new experience.
Mira raced towards the swings, her laughter mixing with the joyful sounds around her. She soared into the air, feeling free and exhilarated. "Push me higher!" she called to her new friend, who was happy to oblige.
Mom watched from a distance, her heart swelling with pride as she saw Mira embrace her first day with such enthusiasm. "She's going to be just fine," she thought, reassured by the sight of her daughter's happiness.
Mira rushed to her mother's side, her face flushed with excitement. "Mom, I made a friend, and we read books, and played on the swings!" she exclaimed, her words tumbling over each other in her eagerness to share.
Mom hugged her tightly, grateful for the day's success. "I'm so proud of you, Mira. I can't wait to hear all about it on the way home," she said, taking her daughter's hand as they walked towards the car, ready to embark on this new journey together.
