Molli twirled around, her long, woolly hair swishing and tangling in the wind. Today was a special day—she was finally getting her very first haircut, just in time for her very first day of school! Her heart thumped with excitement as she imagined all the new friends she’d make, and how neat she would look with her new style.
"I can’t wait to see what I’ll look like with shorter hair!"
Molli galloped over to the salon, her hair brushing the tops of wildflowers as she moved. She climbed onto the stone and tried to sit still, but her excitement bubbled over. Her trunk curled around a ribbon and she giggled, imagining how light she’d feel with less hair.
"Do you think I’ll look very different?" she asked, her eyes wide with wonder.
The barber greeted Molli with a warm smile and began carefully untangling her hair. Each stroke of the comb made her shiver and giggle, and little birds perched nearby to watch the transformation. Snip by snip, tufts of thick hair floated down like puffs of cotton, and Molli tried her best to hold still.
"It tickles, but it feels nice!"

Molli's heart fluttered with uncertainty. What if her friends didn’t recognize her? She glanced down at the pile of wool and wondered if she’d still feel like herself.
"Will my friends still know it’s me?" she whispered, her voice trembling softly.

With a deep breath, Molli stepped down from the stone and trotted to the pond. She blinked in surprise at her reflection—she looked brighter, tidier, and still every bit herself. The young mammoths cheered and ran over, brushing their trunks against her new fur.
"Wow, Molli! You look amazing!" one called, and Molli beamed with pride.

With her new haircut, Molli felt lighter and braver than ever. She marched toward her first day of school, her friends by her side, and her heart full of excitement for all the adventures ahead. As the herd watched her go, she waved her newly-fluffy trunk and grinned.
"I’m ready for anything now!"
