Munya, a curious little boy of three, clutches his mother's hand as they stroll along the winding path. His eyes are wide with wonder, taking in the colors and sounds around him. The sun warms his cheeks, and his tiny shoes patter softly against the paved walkway.
Munya's mother, gentle and attentive, guides him towards a shady bench beneath a sprawling oak tree. Munya tugs at her sleeve, his gaze fixed on something moving in the grass nearby. The scent of freshly cut grass fills the air, and a gentle breeze stirs the leaves above them.
Munya points excitedly, his face lighting up with delight. "Look, Mama! Squirrel!" The squirrel’s tiny paws grasp the maize cob, its nose twitching and eyes shining as it savors each bite. Yellow kernels scatter around her, glinting in the sunlight.
"She must be very hungry," Munya's mother whispers softly, her tone gentle and encouraging. Munya's hands rest on his knees as he watches the squirrel munch contentedly, her fur a mix of warm browns and grays. Nearby, a few birds hop closer, curious about the scene.
"Can I give her some more food, Mama?" Munya asks, his voice hopeful. "We can bring some next time, so we don't disturb her now," his mother replies, smiling warmly. The squirrel, unbothered, returns to her treat as Munya watches in awe.
"Say goodbye to the squirrel, Munya," Munya's mother says gently. "Goodbye, Squirrel! See you next time!" Munya calls, waving his tiny hand. Together, they continue their walk, the memory of the squirrel’s visit glimmering in Munya's heart as the sun sets softly over the park.
