Nimbus tried to blend in, but the other clouds swirled around him, their laughter echoing in the sky.
Cumulus, a large, confident cloud, floated closer and poked fun. "Hey Nimbus, when are you going to learn how to rain like the rest of us? Are you just here for decoration?"
Nimbus shrank a little, feeling smaller than ever as the others joined in the teasing, their droplets sparkling in the sunlight.
Nimbus sighed, wishing he could rain like the others. "Why am I so different? Why can't I do what everyone else does?"
A gentle breeze brushed past, carrying the scent of distant rain and the hope of new beginnings.
Nimbus glided over rocky canyons and sleeping cacti, searching for someone who might understand. He passed by an old, wise-looking palm tree rooted in a rare oasis.
Sage Palm, with fronds fluttering, greeted him kindly. "Little cloud, you look troubled. What brings you so far from your friends?"
Nimbus noticed the creatures gathering in his shadow, sighing with relief. Tortoise, slow and gentle, looked up and smiled. "Thank you, Nimbus. Your shade is a gift in this hot land. Without you, we would have nowhere to rest."
Nimbus blinked in surprise, realizing that his presence brought comfort and protection, even without rain.
Nimbus felt his mist swirl with pride and happiness. "Maybe I can’t rain, but I can help in my own way," he said, his voice now steady and bright.
Sage Palm nodded, his fronds shimmering. "Every cloud has its purpose, Nimbus. The desert is grateful for yours."
Cumulus floated over, curiosity replacing mockery. "Nimbus, where have you been? Why are all those animals so happy to see you?"
Nimbus beamed, his edges glowing with confidence. "I may not know how to rain, but I can bring shade to those who need it most. I’ve found my own special way to help."
The other clouds drifted closer, seeing Nimbus in a new light, and the sky filled with laughter—this time, warm and welcoming, as Nimbus floated proudly among them.
