Noah, a brown-skinned boy with lively eyes, sits on the edge of his bed, swinging his legs and clutching a well-worn sketchbook. His father, Frank, stands in the doorway, his smile gentle but tinged with excitement. "Ready for the road trip, champ? I can't wait! I want to see the palm trees and maybe a dolphin," Noah replies, his voice bubbling with hope.
Frank drives with one hand on the wheel, glancing at Noah through the rearview mirror. Snacks and juice boxes clutter the seat beside Noah, who sketches scenes out the window. "Look, Dad! That horse looks like it's racing us," Noah exclaims, pointing at a distant farm. "Maybe it's trying to keep up because it knows we're on a big adventure," Frank laughs.
Noah and Frank sit together, sharing sandwiches and cold lemonade. A family of ducks waddles nearby, and the distant sound of a train horn echoes. "Do you think Florida will be really different?" Noah asks, a hint of nervousness in his voice. "It's going to be new, but we'll explore together. Change can be exciting, son," Frank assures him with a reassuring smile.
Noah presses his face to the glass, watching lightning flicker in the distance. Inside, the car feels snug and safe despite the storm. "I hope it stops raining before we get to Florida," Noah murmurs. "Floridians say rain just means it's time for an adventure inside. Maybe we'll see a rainbow," Frank replies, keeping the mood light.
Noah gazes in awe at the vibrant colors, the unfamiliar sights, and the smell of salt in the air. The car rolls to a stop in front of their new home, a cheerful yellow house with a wide porch. "It's even better than I imagined!" Noah says, hopping out and spinning in the driveway. "Welcome to Florida, Noah. This is just the beginning," Frank says, unlocking the front door.
Frank joins him, carrying two mugs of hot cocoa. Together, they look out over their neighborhood, the world bright and full of possibility. "What do you want to do first? "Find the beach. And maybe, see a dolphin," Noah grins, his heart open to the wonders of Florida.
