Oliver sat at his desk, nervously fidgeting with his pencil. The day's reading assignment lay open in front of him, the words blurring together in a jumble. His heart pounded in his chest as he glanced around at his classmates who seemed to be breezing through their tasks.
"Alright, class, let's take our time and enjoy the story," said Ms. E, their gentle and patient teacher, as she moved around the room offering encouragement. She stopped by Oliver's desk, giving him a reassuring smile. "Remember, Oliver, it's okay to ask for help," she whispered.
Gran Jenny sat beside him, her knitting needles clacking softly in rhythm. "You know, Oliver, when I was your age, I struggled with reading too," she said, her voice steady and reassuring. Oliver looked up, surprised. "Really?" he asked.
"Oh yes, but with practice and a little patience, I found a way to enjoy it," Gran Jenny replied, handing him a small book. "Why don't we read this together?"
Lily and Frankie, Oliver's best friends, approached him with a soccer ball. "Hey, Oliver! Want to play?" Lily called out, her eyes sparkling with excitement.
"I don't know, I have to finish my reading," Oliver replied hesitantly.
"We can help you with that," Frankie offered, sitting down beside him. "Yeah, we can take turns reading. It'll be fun!" Lily added, her enthusiasm contagious.
Oliver sat with Lily and Frankie, the three of them huddled over a book. As they took turns reading aloud, Oliver found himself smiling, the words starting to make sense.
"This isn't so bad," he admitted, feeling a spark of confidence.
Ms. E watched from her desk, nodding approvingly. "Great job, team! Oliver, you're doing fantastic," she praised, her voice full of encouragement.
Oliver stood with Lily and Frankie, a renewed sense of accomplishment filling his heart. "Thank you, guys. I couldn't have done it without you," he said, his voice brimming with gratitude.
"That's what friends are for!" Lily replied, giving him a playful nudge.
"Next time, let's tackle writing together too," Frankie suggested, their camaraderie evident in their shared laughter.
Oliver lay in bed, a book resting on his chest. He closed his eyes, feeling a newfound confidence. With the support of Ms. E, Gran Jenny, and his friends, he realized that he could overcome any challenge.
As he drifted off to sleep, he dreamed of adventures in the stories he would read tomorrow.
