In a corner of the room, Ella sat with a thoughtful expression. Her curly hair was tied into pigtails, and her backpack was decorated with stickers of stars and hearts. "Today will be better," she whispered to herself, determined to make her day at school a good one.
Ella approached the table with her lunchbox, a hint of worry in her eyes. As she sat down, she noticed a peanut butter sandwich on her neighbor's tray. Tommy, with his friendly smile, looked over. "Want a bite?" he asked innocently, unaware of the dilemma he presented.
"I can't, I'm allergic," Ella replied, trying to keep her voice steady. "Oh, I forgot. Sorry!" Tommy said, looking apologetic.
Ella stood by the slide, watching her classmates play. She felt a pang of loneliness as she remembered the birthday parties she couldn't attend because of her allergy. "It's like having a secret that no one understands," she thought, kicking a pebble with her shoe.
Her best friend, Maya, joined her, noticing her somber mood. "Hey, what’s wrong?" Ella shrugged, "It's just hard sometimes," she admitted, grateful for Maya's presence.
Ella picked up a pencil, letting her feelings flow into words. She crafted a poem about her allergy, sharing her challenges and hopes. "Peanuts are small, but they cause me fright, yet with friends by my side, I feel all right," she wrote, a smile forming on her lips.
Maya read over her shoulder, "That's beautiful, Ella! You should share it with the class," she encouraged. Ella nodded, feeling a spark of confidence and relief.
Ella stood at the front of the class, her poem in hand. Her heart raced as she began to read, "With a peanut in sight, I feel alone, but with friends who care, I have found my home."
The class listened intently, and as she finished, they erupted into applause. Tommy raised his hand, "Ella, we should all be more careful. Thanks for sharing!" he said, and Ella felt a wave of gratitude wash over her.
Ella walked alongside Maya, feeling lighter than she had in days. "Thanks for being there, Maya," she said, squeezing her friend's hand.
"Anytime, Ella. We're all here for you," Maya replied, and they both smiled, knowing that with understanding and friendship, they could face anything together.
