"Mom, I've never seen Riley like this. Is she going to be okay?"Mom kneels beside Riley, brushing a stray pigtail from her forehead and offering a comforting smile. "She just has a common cold, Ralph. She needs a few things to help her feel better,"
"Like what" says Ralph, "well how about we start with some orange juice, think you can get a glass of that for your sister?" "Sure" replied Ralph "but why orange juice?" "well orange juice has a lot of vitamin C, and that helps your body fight off that cold," Understanding dawning in his eyes, Ralph squeezes harder, eager to help his twin sister.
"Stay close, but keep a safe distance, Ralph. We want you healthy, too," says Mom"I'm hungry," Riley groaned"I'll make you some chicken soup baby,"
"Why chicken soup?" asked Ralph"Riley needs warm fluids to help prevent dehydration and soothe her nasal passages, so she can breathe better," Together, they ladle the steaming soup into a bowl, ready to deliver comfort.
After Riley finished her meal, it was time for her to take her medicine "I don't like medicine," Riley whined, concerned Ralph asks"Why does she need it, Mom?""It will help with her coughing, soothe her throat, and hopefully help her sleep. When she takes it, that is,""Come on, Riley. If you take it, maybe we can play outside tomorrow," Reluctantly, Riley sips the medicine, soon drifting into peaceful slumber beneath her quilt.
The next morning Riley is excited to find out she's feeling much better! She jumps up and runs to Ralph room and yells "Ralph, let's play!" but unfortunately Ralph was still in bed with Mom there nursing him because now he's the one with a cold. "Here we go again," said mom Laughter fills the house as the cycle of care continues, love swirling as surely as the sunlight that dances across their faces.
