Sabrina, her long brown hair cascading over her shoulders, beams with excitement as she sits before her family. Her big brown eyes shimmer with anticipation while her parents hand her a small glass bowl, inside which swims a vibrant, tiny red fish with big eyes and striped colors, its tail flickering like a flame.
"Wow! Is this little guy for me?"
Her mother nods, smiling. "His name is Finn. He's your special birthday gift, Sabrina."
Sabrina tries to mimic Finn’s swimming by waving her hand. "Hi Finn! I promise to take care of you every day," she whispers, her voice full of wonder and responsibility.
Her father places a small jar of fish food next to the bowl. "Finn needs clean water and regular feeding. Taking care of him is a big job," he says gently.
Days pass, and Sabrina sometimes forgets to feed Finn or change his water. One morning, she notices Finn moving sluggishly, his colors less vibrant.
"Finn, are you okay?" Worry flickers across her face, guilt settling in her chest. She remembers her parents' words about responsibility.
"Animals depend on us, Sabrina. If we don’t care for them, they can get sick or feel sad," her mother explains softly, placing a comforting hand on her shoulder.
Sabrina nods, tears pricking her eyes. She gazes at Finn, wishing she had been more attentive.
Sabrina smiles, relief washing over her as Finn’s colors brighten. She sits by the bowl, talking to him softly.
"I’m sorry, Finn. I’ll do better. You’re my special friend, and I want you to be happy,"
Sabrina reflects on her promise, realizing the importance of responsibility. She feels proud of her efforts and grateful for Finn’s companionship.
"Taking care of someone is a big job, but I know I can do it if I try my best," she writes, her handwriting neat and determined.
