Sally, a tomboy little girl with red curls, stands at the edge of a mossy clearing, her boots already splattered with mud. Puddles form quickly around her, reflecting the stormy sky and trembling pine branches. She grins with anticipation, the rain soaking through her jacket but failing to dampen her excitement.
"This is the best weather for an adventure," she declares, her voice almost lost in the wind.
Sally leaps into a puddle, sending muddy water spraying. She watches as her footprints quickly vanish beneath the rising water, her laughter echoing through the woods. The forest, usually quiet, feels alive and eager to join in her play.
"Come on, forest! Show me what you’ve got!" she calls, spinning beneath the dripping branches.
Sally drags a stick through the mud, tracing winding trails and drawing shapes on the ground. She discovers a patch of bright mushrooms, their red caps gleaming in the rain, and kneels to inspect them. Her hands, caked with earth, are evidence of her joyful exploration.
"I bet fairies love this weather too," she muses, poking at a mushroom gently.
Sally approaches the edge, watching the water swirl. She spots a leaf boat racing downstream and chases after it, careful not to slip. Her reflection is distorted in the churning water, making her giggle as she tries to catch glimpses of herself.
"If only I had a real boat," she sighs, eyes shining with possibility.

Sally crouches low, holding out her muddy hand. The chipmunk inches closer, drawn by curiosity and the promise of safety. For a moment, girl and animal share the shelter of a rain-soaked cedar.
"Hello, little one," she whispers, voice gentle amidst the storm’s fading growl.
Sally sits on a mossy stone, legs dangling above the now gentle stream. Her clothes are muddy, her spirit bright, and the forest feels like a friend that has shared its secrets. In the hush after the storm, she dreams of future adventures, her laughter mingling with the last drops of rain.
"Tomorrow, maybe the sun will come out," she says, voice full of hope as the light fades and the night begins to settle over Idaho’s wild woods.
