Sammy the squirrel bounded out of his cozy hollow, a small wooden box clutched tightly in his paws. Today was the day he would finally finish his favorite jigsaw puzzle—a forest scene filled with chattering animals and tall trees. Carefully, he opened the box beneath his favorite branch, spreading out the colorful pieces. But as he began sorting, his heart sank—one piece, the bright red one with a bit of the sun, was missing.
Sammy pushed aside leaves, peered under rocks, and climbed up twisting roots, calling out to the forest. "Oh no, where could it have gone? I can't finish my puzzle without it!" His voice trembled with worry as he checked every nook and cranny of his favorite spot. But the red puzzle piece remained stubbornly out of sight.
Milly the mouse, small and quick, scurried over, her whiskers twitching with concern. Ollie the owl swooped down, his feathers soft and eyes wide with curiosity. "What's wrong, Sammy?" "I've lost my puzzle piece—the last one! Will you help me find it?" "Of course. We'll search every inch of Oakwood if we have to."
Milly spotted a set of tiny footprints leading away from the creek. "Look, tracks! Maybe someone found your piece and carried it off." Sammy perked up, hope brightening his eyes. Together, the friends followed the footprints deeper into the woods, weaving past ferns and tangled vines.
Charlie the chipmunk, always collecting treasures, looked up in surprise as the group approached. "Charlie! You found my puzzle piece!" "I didn’t know it was yours, Sammy. It was so pretty, I wanted to add it to my collection." "Maybe we can all play together with the puzzle once it’s finished," suggested Ollie, his tone gentle and kind.
Sammy placed the final piece, his face beaming with joy. "Thank you all for helping me. The puzzle looks even better now that we finished it together." The friends cheered, laughter echoing through the forest. As the sun dipped lower, painting the sky with gold and pink, they promised to share more adventures—and puzzles—together.
