Sammy, a lively 10-year-old with a twinkle in his eye, stood at the center of the playground, surrounded by his friends. His mission was clear: to collect the funniest jokes for the upcoming school talent show. "Alright, everyone! Who's ready to hear the best jokes ever?"
Lily, with her quirky obsession with puns, bounced over. "I've got one! Why don't skeletons fight each other?" she asked with a mischievous grin. "I don't know, why?" Sammy replied, eager for the punchline. "Because they don't have the guts!" The group erupted into giggles, setting the tone for a day filled with laughter.
Max, always trying to outdo Sammy, joined the circle with a cheeky smirk. "Hey, what's orange and sounds like a parrot?" he challenged. "Hmm, I give up. What?" "A carrot!" The kids laughed, and Sammy nodded approvingly.
Sammy took his turn, eager to impress. "Why did the student eat his homework?" he asked, pausing for effect. Lily shrugged, "Why?" "Because his teacher said it was a piece of cake!" The laughter was infectious, and Sammy knew he was onto something special.
As the bell rang for lunch, Sammy continued his quest, approaching a table of younger kids. "Hey, wanna hear a joke?" he asked. Ella, a shy first-grader, nodded eagerly. "Why can't you give Elsa a balloon?" "Why?" "Because she will let it go!" The table erupted in laughter, and Sammy felt a warm sense of accomplishment.
The day of the talent show arrived, and Sammy stood backstage, butterflies in his stomach. His friends, Lily and Max, gave him encouraging nods. "Here goes nothing," he said to himself before stepping onto the stage.
Sammy took a deep breath and started with confidence, "Why did the math book look sad?" The audience was silent, waiting. "Because it had too many problems!" Laughter filled the room, and Sammy felt the joy of sharing humor with everyone.
Sammy finished his set with a flourish, "Thank you, everyone! Remember, laughter is the best medicine, even if you don't have a prescription!" The auditorium erupted in applause.
Lily and Max joined him on stage, "You nailed it, Sammy!" "Yeah, but just wait till next year. I'll have even better jokes!" Sammy grinned, knowing the fun had just begun.
