Sarah stood at the edge of the playground, her heart pounding in her chest. Her fingers fidgeted with the straps of her new purple backpack, a shade carefully chosen to match her favorite pencil case. She watched as kids laughed and hugged, reuniting with friends after the summer break. "I can do this," she whispered to herself, taking a deep breath before walking towards the entrance.
The moment Sarah stepped inside, she was enveloped by the hustle and bustle. Her eyes darted around, trying to find Room 12B. Suddenly, she bumped into someone. Mr. Thompson, a tall man with a head of curly gray hair and spectacles perched on his nose, smiled down at her. "Ah, you must be Sarah. Welcome! Let me show you to your class," he said warmly.
Sarah followed Mr. Thompson into the classroom, her eyes widening at the sight. A few students were already seated, chatting animatedly. One of them, Lila, a girl with curly brown hair and a friendly smile, waved her over. "Hi, I'm Lila. You can sit next to me if you want," she offered.
Sarah found herself relaxing as the day went on. Lila was kind and funny, sharing stories about her summer adventures. During recess, they explored the playground together, discovering a hidden corner under a large oak tree. "This can be our secret spot," Lila suggested with a grin.
Sarah felt a thrill of excitement. She loved space and couldn't wait to dive into the project. "We should work together," Lila said, her eyes twinkling with enthusiasm. Sarah nodded eagerly, already imagining the planets they'd create.
As Sarah walked out of Downsview Elementary, she felt lighter, her initial nerves replaced by excitement for the days ahead. She waved goodbye to Lila and Mr. Thompson, knowing she had found a place where she could truly be herself. Her first day had turned into an unexpected adventure, one she couldn't wait to continue.
