Savannah sat at the breakfast table, swinging her legs and grinning at her reflection in the shiny spoon. Today was special—she had decided that every greeting must be extraordinary. As her mom entered, "A splendid spaghetti morning to you, Queen of Coffee!" she declared, bowing dramatically with her spoon as a scepter. "Greeting to you my Silly Sunshine!" her mother replied. Savannah grabbed her backpack, bolted out the front door, the steps and onto the school bus.
Savannah marched onto the playground. Spotting her friend Ashton, she spun in a circle and waved both arms, "Fantastical flamingo greetings, Ashton!" The other children paused, giggling as Savannah greeted each with a new twist—“Banana-bouncing hellos!” and “Rainbow rhino salutations!”
Savannah spotted Ms. Harper and couldn’t resist. With a flourish of her notebook, she proclaimed, "Marvelous moonbeam salutations, Ms. Harper!" Ms. Harper chuckled, shaking her head in amusement. Savannah took her seat, her classmates whispering, eager to see what greeting she’d invent next.
During lunch, Savannah stood on her chair, raised her juice box, and announced, "Wondrous watermelon wishes to everyone!" Her friends burst into laughter, and even the lunch lady gave her a wink. The table filled with playful responses—“Pineapple high-fives!” and “Grape giggle greetings!”—spreading smiles throughout the room.
As the final bell rang, Savannah gathered her things and waved to her friends. "Terrific turtle time until tomorrow!" she called, making everyone laugh one last time.
At bedtime, Savannah snuggled under her star-patterned blanket, thinking about all the greetings she’d invented. Her dad tucked her in, and Savannah whispered, "Sleepy squirrel snuggles, Dad." Her dad kissed her forehead, smiling. Tomorrow, she decided, she’d find even more ways to make the world smile.
