Sawyer Brooks, a wide-eyed six-year-old, lay beneath his rocket ship blanket, clutching his favorite plush dinosaur tightly. He gazed up at the ceiling, his mind swirling with questions about the “fun place” his mom had promised for tomorrow. Would it really be fun if someone else was going to brush his teeth? "What if the dentist is scarier than a T-Rex?" he whispered, seeking comfort from his dinosaur friend.
Sawyer pulled the covers to his chin as he watched a little boy leave the office, grinning and waving a new toothbrush. Mom, gentle and reassuring, knelt beside him. "See? Everyone looks happy, Sawyer. I think you’re going to like it." She gave him a warm smile, and though his nerves fluttered, he began to feel a spark of curiosity.
Mrs. Mallory, the dental hygienist, appeared in her pink mask, her kind eyes crinkling with a smile. She greeted Sawyer with a gentle wave. "Hi Sawyer! I’m Mrs. Mallory. Today, I have a Superman toothbrush just for you. Do you think you’re brave enough to sit in my superhero chair?" Sawyer glanced at Mom, then nodded slowly, curiosity starting to outweigh his nerves.
Mrs. Mallory showed Sawyer the Superman toothbrush, turning it on with a soft whir. "We’re going to chase away all the sugar bugs hiding on your teeth," she explained, brushing each tooth carefully. The water sprayer tickled and cooled his mouth, making Sawyer giggle unexpectedly. "Are the sugar bugs real? Do they look like ants?" "They’re tiny, but they can’t beat Superman. And with your help at home, they won’t stand a chance," she replied with a wink.
Mrs. Mallory picked up the camera. "This camera helps us see your super teeth up close. Ready to take some toothy pictures?" Sawyer opened his mouth wide, feeling like a movie star as the camera flashed. "Will my teeth really last forever if I brush every night?" "That’s right, if you take care of them, they’ll be with you for a lifetime," she assured him, her voice full of encouragement.
Mrs. Summer, the other hygienist, gave Sawyer's brother a high-five, chatting about getting a tooth crown next time. Mrs. Mallory handed Sawyer a brand new toothbrush, a bag filled with floss, toothpaste, and a shiny sticker. "This place is way cooler than I thought! I can’t wait to come back and show off my superhero teeth," he exclaimed, running to share his treasures with his brother, his earlier worries replaced by sparkling confidence.
