Scarlett kneels by a mound of soft sand, her bucket and shovel beside her. She digs enthusiastically, creating winding moats around the beginnings of a grand sandcastle. Grains of sand stick to her fingers, and each new wave of creativity brings a delighted smile to her face.
Scarlett's fun is interrupted by a sudden urge to go potty. She glances around, hoping to spot a restroom, but none are immediately visible. Not wanting to bother her mom, she decides to look for one herself, brushing the sand from her knees as she stands.
Scarlett hurries along, scanning for any sign of a restroom. Every few moments, she hesitates, pressing her legs together, the urgency to poop growing. The search grows frantic, and she feels a twinge of worry in her chest.
She feels a sudden warmth in the back of her swimsuit and knows she pooped her pants. Tears prick her eyes as she looks down, feeling small and unsure. Scarlett wishes she had just told her mom instead of trying to be brave on her own.
"Oh, sweetheart, it's okay," her mom says softly, wrapping her in a comforting hug. "Accidents happen to everyone, especially when we're having so much fun." With loving hands, her mom leads her to a changing area, reassuring her with every step.
Scarlett feels safer and less embarrassed as her mom gives her an encouraging smile. "Now you're all set to go back and play!" her mom says, squeezing her hand. The rest of the afternoon is filled with laughter and new sandcastles, the earlier mishap already fading into the background as Scarlett enjoys the beach, feeling cared for and happy.
