Sidney stood at the edge of the field as his previous owner brought him out to meet her. Her heart thumping in her chest as she reached out to take his lead rope from him. Twix had been the pride of both boys and then the families daughter, but ig was time to pass him on to someone new. Twix's previous owner was anxious to get his barn back for other purposes and after hearing so much about Sidney's love for horses from her dad at work, he made the proposal. Why don't you take Twix home to your farm for your daughter. I small fee was negotiated and a deal was struck.
Once home, unloaded and in his new make shift stall Sidney's dad created, he lifted his head and looked right at Sidney. It's as if he knew, this was his new best friend. Sidney approached. His big eyes blinked with curiosity, and he snorted softly, shaking his mane. "Hi, Twix. I’m Sidney. I guess we’re going to be partners from now on," she said, her voice trembling with excitement and nerves.
Sidney then led Twix outside, using the tack that was sent home with him. She couldn't wait to saddle him up, but today she'd have to just ride him bareback, since the saddle she had was still at her ridng coaches barn. She did have a bridle and put it on him effortlessly. Feeling the worn leather reins in her hands. She climbed onto his back, legs shaking but determined. Twix shifted beneath her, ears flicking back to listen. "Easy, boy. We’ll figure this out together," she whispered, letting the steady rocking of his walk calm her nerves.
Sidney tried to guide Twix in a circle, but he hesitated, unsure of her cues. Sidney's mom was beside herself, seeing how happy Sidney was and you could tell right away, dad too, was pretty please with how it all came together. He had heard his boss, Twix's previous owner talk about Twix for a couple years. You have thought Twix was a million dollar horse hearing how wonderful he was to their family. Dad was glad he was now part of ours. It didn't take anytime at all until Twix and Sidney bonded, and she began riding him all around the small pasture next to the barn.
OnceSidney took him back to the barn, she began to brush and pamperTwix's coat, her hands gentle and sure. Twix rested his head on her shoulder, sighing contentedly. She smiled, feeling pride at how far they had come in just one day. "You did great today, Twix. We’re going to make an amazing team," she murmured, her voice warm with affection.
Sidney pretty well hung by Twix's stall, watching him settle in, all afternoon. She felt a deep sense of belonging, her world now included a real horse of her own. She was full of anticipation for the days ahead. With one last look, she whispered her promise to always care for him and turned toward the house, her heart full.
No one could possibly know how this small seed of equine experiance would change and model Sidney's life in ways unimaginable now, but life was only going to get better.
