Sophie stood at the edge of her new driveway, her shoulders slumped, gazing at unfamiliar houses and the scrubby landscape. The scent of gum leaves was sharp and strange, a far cry from the pine forests of Canada. She watched as her mum fussed over the boxes, her own heart sinking with each passing moment. Everything felt too bright, too loud, and far from home.
Sophie curled up on her bed, clutching a faded photograph of her friends back in Canada. The room echoed with emptiness, and every sound seemed alien. Her mum peeked in, offering a weak smile before disappearing to finish sorting the kitchen. "I miss home so much. I wish I had someone to talk to," she whispered to herself, tears prickling her eyes.
Sophie wandered outside, her slippers damp from the grass. Suddenly, she heard a tiny voice giggling behind a bush. As she parted the leaves, a small, fluffy puppy with sparkling eyes tumbled out, wagging her tail. Emily (the puppy), with a coat as soft as clouds and ears tipped with caramel, looked up at her. "Hello there! Are you Sophie? I've been waiting to meet you!" Sophie gasped, startled and wide-eyed.

Sophie listened in delight as Emily told stories about chasing rainbows and befriending garden gnomes. "I can't believe you can talk! You're the best friend I've ever had," she exclaimed, hugging the puppy close. "And I'm so happy to be here with you, Sophie. Australia isn't so bad once you have a friend," replied Emily. The world suddenly felt brighter, filled with joy and laughter.
Sophie’s mum walked in to find Sophie chatting animatedly to Emily. "Sophie, who are you talking to?" she asked, her brow furrowing as she spotted the puppy. "Hello, Mrs. Williams! I'm Emily, and I'm very happy to meet you," piped Emily, wagging her tail. Sophie’s mum let out a shriek, dropping her spoon, her face flushed with disbelief and confusion.

After the shock wore off, Sophie’s mum watched as Emily snuggled up beside Sophie, her gentle voice filling the room with warmth. "I suppose every new home needs a little magic," she said, smiling at last. The days that followed brimmed with happiness, adventures, and the love of a very extraordinary puppy. In their new home, Sophie, her mum, and Emily found a forever kind of joy, living happily ever after.
